I use this lovely, informative and ever growing book for my best Friends to give them the pleasure to "knowingly" drink a good bootle of wine wherever they are at home. None of my Friends has ever had a critical remark in roughly 20 years.

My favorite book

I buy it from 1987. It became around 2 times of the thickness of an original book. I dropped in at the bookstore at every trip to the United States before not the Amazon and bought it because there was a bookstore at the airport when it was SFO. Because it is update every year, the contents hardly change, but, from around 2000 when garage wine of Bordeaux has begun to become the topic, the publication of the wine of the kind feels like having begun. Because, as is expected, in comparison with R parka it is a British owner, an important point is put for the evaluation of classic wine. How many years can you update the back? I want you to be well forever.

Really useful

Really useful book. It goes country by country and lists the many growers and marks them. I have used it a few times before going out to eat to have a look at a wine list on-line, checking it against this book and deciding my wine before I even leave the house. This has saved me money and pointed me towards some good discoveries. It is the size of an oversize pocket diary so technically you could carry it with you, but it is small and in restaurant lighting you may be squinting to read the detail, best to plan ahead.
There is more to this than a country by country guide but what differentiates it is actually the country/winery writes ups, the rest is fairly standard stuff, but I have found the write ups invaluable

Good Test Questions but No Video for Mac

This book consists of five tests on perioperative transesophageal echocardiography, in preparation for the National Boards in Echocardiography for cardiac anesthesiologists. Each test is divided into a video section and a written test section, with accompanying answers and brief explanations, as well as references to standard echo textbooks that provide some more in depth discussion of each topic. I thought that the written test questions were quite good, although too much reliance on Sidney Edelman's ultrasound physics book for my taste (lots of wrote memorization without good explanations or thinking required). Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the video half of this book, as the DVD does not work on a Mac, despite the publisher's claim that it will work on OS X 10.2 or above. This is a significant and misleading claim, as half of the benefit of this book is lost to Mac users. This omission could be dismissed if this were the year 2000, but in 2010 when everyone seems to have a Macbook, it is inexcusable.

MCQs ok, Videos are rubbish

Good to break up the study with MCQ's.
The Video library is bordering on useless. You spend most of the time waiting for the clips. They often play for a fraction of a second. You don't have time to even identify which view it is. And if you blink you'll have to start all over again from the start. I got to the 3rd exam 5th case and it jumps back to case 1. Waste of time.
Would only buy it for the MCQs.
Also it is very dated. Needs to be revised.

Doesn't work with leopard or tiger

In spite of the publisher says it wont work on a MAC. I called them and they basically said 'Oh well'. Otherwise very good.

Grade 3-6-- Wayside School is 30 stories high with only one room on each floor. On the top floor is Mrs. Jewls' class, where order has been abandoned in favor of nonsense and silliness. Each of the 30 stories in this collection features an unusual vignette or character sketch. The stories are only loosely tied together, and many have a shaggy dog quality. While adult readers may be left quizzical, children who relish the ridiculous will enjoy themselves tremendously. With bad puns, extended jokes, and an irreverent attitude, Sachar keeps his readers amused. Wayside School is Falling Down

Do you like action, comedy, laughs, and good times? If you do then read Wayside School is Falling Down by Louis Sachar. It's about the funny and strange things that happen in Wayside school. It's one of the funniest books I have ever read.
An example of one of the funny moments was when the author wrote a whole chapter backwards! I realized the chapter was backwards after I read it forwards. What was especially interesting and funny though was that the girl in the chapter does everything backwards.
Another funny instance is that the school is thirty floors high. What's even funnier is there is only one classroom on each floor! Also there is no nineteenth floor. A different funny thing is in another chapter a girl goes on the nineteenth floor even though there isn't one.
I enjoyed the book very much. It was funny and each chapter wasn't long. You should read this book if you don't like reading. This is because it is almost like reading a book of jokes. It's not long and it's funny. You should read this book.

Hilarious and should be read with your kids!

This book is down-right funny. Goofy even! I think it is one of the funnier, insane books for kids out there. Each chapter brings a whole new meaning to fun as you read about all the students in Mrs. Jewls's class. Trust me when I say you will love it! If you really want to have a good time while reading a book, this one is for you.

Does Johnny Hate to Read?

Louis Sachar has found a way to combine a child's wacky way of viewing the world, clever plays on words, phrases, and chapters(!!), and a cast of quirky characters to produce a set of books that will coax any reader to keep on reading.
The third of his Wayside School series, Sachar turns the school upside-down, and, in the process, guarantees entertaining reading for adult and child alike. I particularly enjoy the audio version of the book, since the "voice" on tape successfully makes each character's persona his own.
This is a book that your child (and you!) will find yourself reading over and over, discovering new meanings in different passages each time.
Mr. Sachar, keep writing!!

As a psychologist, Kennedy is concerned with the mature person and notes that maturity is marked by the acceptance of the distress that is part and parcel of our relationships with others. Escape into drugs, work, vapid entertainment, or even prayer, is not a solution. We must accept the pain as well as the pleasure of relationships, for "close and affectionate relationships with other people are the prime signal of healthy personhood."

It is interesting that there is no place for solitude in Kennedy's world. Perhaps he is right that the primary obligation for all of us is the difficult work of loving others.

Accessible and Direct

The structure of Kennedy's venture into human mechanics allows for the reader to start, finish, and continue at any point in the book. With chapters not totaling more than five or six pages each, every idea is explored with concise consideration. I often found myself looking at the chapter titles and skipping to whatever section was applicable for that point of time.
Despite the melodramatic title, "Pain of Being Human" is one of those books you keep near your nightstand for daily reflection. It takes a Christian perspective on life and introduces morals that make sense in the modern world. I am not a religious person and I still gleaned so much insight from the text without getting the feeling I was being preached to.
It is a definite good choice and should go under the category "Self-Help book with dignity."

The Pain of Being Human crystalises all those thoughts you had about existence - but never wrote down. Lucidly written without the usual psycho-babble that psychologists like to impress us with. Another book that gave me greater insight into the pain of being human, was the inspired "The Autobiography of Jesus of Nazareth and the Missing Years" by Richard G. Patton. Patton's Jesus is faced with the unimagined dilemma of his own spirituality being confronted by his immense humanity. I enjoyed both these books but came away with a greater understanding after reading Patton's book. Admittedly Patton's book is written as a novel where Kennedy's book is written as a dissertation. Kennedy's book is accessible and sure to become a standard on Psychology. Recommended

Love This Book

This book is a practical guide with very simple but beautiful examples. It depends on what you're searching for. For my purposes, it's the perfect book because it demonstrates visually 101 techniques, one by one. Most watercolor books demonstrate techniques with complex subjects and make it hard to isolate each technique.

I am an artist who wants to learn how to handle watercolor. I neither need guidance on how to draw nor information about supplies. I wanted exactly what this book provides - straightforward examples of how to achieve a large variety of effects with watercolor. The examples are simple and clear. I can really understand exactly how to duplicate the technique. And the examples are so beautiful that it's a treat just to look through the book. It's a book I'll cherish and use frequently.

The depth of Kamen's research on his subject, who ruled Spain from 1527 to 1598, could overwhelm some readers, as his previous works have done (e.g., The Phoenix and the Flame, Yale Univ., 1993). In this first in-depth biography of Philip II, Kamen's understanding of and acquaintance with the sources is masterly. The author often disagrees with much of the classic beliefs about Philip's personality; for example, his supposed solemnity and predilection for black (Kamen notes that the king was rarely out of mourning). However, regarding Philip's reputed cruelty, Kamen says he was hard but "restrained the severity of his officials on numberless occasions," yet he fails to enumerate these occasions. While Philip dominated Spanish politics and culture for more than half a century, Kamen devotes only a few tantalizing pages to the effects of that reign on subsequent events. Philip II of Spain has received an almost uniformly bad press; scholars, particularly English and American, generally portray him as a narrow-minded, religious fanatic who reacted with predictable brutality to any stirrings of liberal religious or political thought. Kamen, currently a professor for the Council of Scientific Research in Barcelona, strives mightily to present a more balanced portrait. He scores points in indicating that the supposedly insular Philip traveled widely, mixed socially with Protestants in the Netherlands, and seemed willing to grant them a measure of religious (but not political) toleration. Instead of the absolute monarch often described in diatribes by Anglophiles, Kamen's Philip emerges as a ruler of a fragmented Spain who strived continually to cope with centrifugal forces. A scholarly and comprehensive biography that reconsiders the reputation of King Philip II of Spain (152798). As ruler of the most extensive empire the world had yet seen, Philip II has always been studied exclusively in terms of the political events and foreign policy of his reign. Kamen (Higher Council for Scientific Research, Spain) now offers the first true biography of Philip. The historian draws on new manuscript sources, including Philip's unpublished correspondence, and he emphasizes the part played by the New World in forming Philip's outlook. Emerging from a solitary childhood, which was overshadowed by his remote father, Emperor Charles V, the young Philip was a cultured Renaissance prince: He patronized Titian, took part in medieval jousts, and was caught up in the contemporary nostalgia for chivalry and the legends of King Arthur. His life, however, was to be dominated and shaped by serious problems, mainly springing from the convulsions caused in Europe by the Reformation and by his need as monarch to assert some measure of central control in Spain itself. Kamen explores, for example, the conflicts behind Philip's disastrous policy in the Netherlands and his brief dynastic marriage with England's Queen Mary, his attempt to invade England during the reign of Mary's Protestant successor, Elizabeth, and his interventions to protect the native populations from rapacious colonists in Spanish South America. While Kamen avoids easy revisionism, his Philip comes across as a dutiful and complex man whose freedom was paradoxically limited by his destiny. Deeply religious rather than fanatical, Philip supported the Spanish Inquisition as a matter of course but refused to attack the Jewish Conversos. His present black image, Kamen argues, can be traced to English and Dutch propaganda in the 1580s. Essential reading for all students of the turbulent 16th century. Intriguing but Deflating

I suppose it is true of many a biography, and in individual experience, that we rarely recognize greatness in people we know well. Kamen does an excellent job painting an unconventional portrait of Philip. In the process, however, the "Black Legend" is reduced to a somewhat flighty renaissance princeling.
For whatever reason, I never received the anglophile's disdain for Philip. Perhaps it was Warren Carroll's portrait of Philip in his Christendom series, or Hillaire Belloc's view, both of which tended to paint Philip as the tragically ineffectual hero of Catholic Europe, standing in the breach against both the heretic and the Turk, and only partially saving Europe while dooming his own Empire.
As ought to have been expected, Kamen's well researched and presented portrait shows a complex individual, capable of progressivism (ala opposition to blood purity laws and early support for Tridentine reforms), while simultaneously enjoying the public manifestations of the Inquisition. The casual nature of Philip's early marriages contrasts starkly against his reaction to the death of his fourth wife. "Philip the Bureaucrat" would seem to be an apt title for a King paralyzed by paperwork, and unable to govern his vast realms due to slow communication, shifty underlings, and a byzantine political system that only Umberto Eco could love.
It is hard, in the end, to get a bead on Philip. It is indeed tragic for Spain that the many great chances for the establishment of their empire were lost in the various cataclysms of Dutch piracy, stormy seas, and overzealous generals - thus contributing to the later usurpation of Portugese westernization of the orient, English dominance of North America, and setting the stage for Cardianl Richelieu and far bloodier events in Europe.
Of course, Kamen avoids projecting out consequences, only hinting at the damage done to Spain by the misfortunes of Philip's reign. For a biography of "the world's most powerful man," the focus is so narrow as to be somewhat myopic. But it is at this price that we obtain the detail which saves Philip from both the Black Legend and latter-day sanctification - neither of which he deserves.

This book explains many contemporary aspects of life

For anyone who has visited Philip's magnificent El Escorial palace outside Madrid and wondered at the power of this monarch when looking at his sober and modest bedroom (furnished only with a small chapel), this book is a must. Philip was the greatest Spanish King ever (his father, Charles, was not truly Spanish), possibly upstaged only by Juan Carlos, the current modern ruler. He was the first ever European monarch to be able to claim that the sun never set on his dominions, which stretched from Europe to America to the Phillipines.
Kamen explores his life and unintentionally offers information from which Spaniards, and their descendants in America, can explain much of their/our present culture. He possessed the mightiest army in Europe, but living inland, he did not develop a navy capable of bettering the British; this had implications for the future American nations that we still see today. He received enormous wealth from his American colonies, but it was all dillapidated in the senseless war and occupation of Holland and Belgium. He intended to modernize Spain by importing goods from the rest of Europe, but not ideas; this aided the development of North Europe and Italy but not of his country. And above all, he followed a policy of strict religious intolerance that insured that his realms remained Catholic --as was his wish---, but prevented his country and the future Spanish-speaking nations of America from developing truly democratic traditions. Spain, in particular, has seemed to oscillate like a pendulum ever since between intolerance and liberalism. When you read this book, you will trace this particular trait back to Philip as the greatest inheritor of Spain's eight centuries of nation-building through war.
Kamen presents this biography with no anti- or pro-Spanish taint, as far as I could notice. If anything, his position as a fellow with a Catalan institution is an asset that allows him to view the King of Castille from Spain's important periphery. His book provides for balanced reading and a wealth of information and general culture. I recommend it to anyone interested in understanding the history of all of Spain and Spanish America, and not just Philip.

Beware of false and numerous reviews of this book-- something ain't right here

This is a very simple book with little information. Please note that most of these reviews listed here are bogus. I clicked on that last four reviewers and they had all reviewed the same books. Why would so many people even care about XML to write 259 reviews? It doesn't make sense. Please beware of these false reviews and don't spend $14 for this simple book.

After learning quite a few programming languages such as Java, HTML, and a little bit of C++, I have found that this language does seem a little bit more complex, but I think that makes it all the better in my opinion. XML Programming Success in a Day written by Sam Key does get into a lot of detail through graph drawings, and perfectly explained directions.

Kindle Version on PC is useless, diagrams are not shown correctly, in a usefull way. Do not buy this book if you intend to read it on your PC using the Kindle app.

This doesn't say the book is bad. It's an Amazon/Kindle App problem on PC.

UPDATE:
So i read a bit more. I think the book is really bad, all those good reviews here are bogus imo. The first 20 pages are written in an understandable way (so anyone checking the first pages gets the impression it is a good book). Then suddenly starting with chapter 3 the style changes completely and becomes confusing and unreadable. Suddenly nothing is explained anymore and the book becomes useless/worthless.

To summarize: Kindle version has presentation problems, and the book itself is unreadable after a good start. It's the first time i want my money back as i feel double cheated by Amazon (Kindle version, bogus reviews). Clearly i can't trust the reviews here anymore in the future.

I requested a refund.

Entertaining and Inspiring.

I found this book to be very informative and full interesting information about how some of our role models and icons start their day. If you want to learn how to get more out of your life then you could do worse than read this book and see if you need to adopt some of the habits of the rich and famous. It's written in a really good way that entertains but also gets across some useful information.

This book explains how to make good habits. It contains common sense methods of creating and breaking habits so you can move on to be the best person you can be. I have already made a plan for replacing some of my bad habits with some good ones.

Success is something that doesn't come suddenly and it requires great discipline and patience. This book perfectly sums up the habits and ritual of successful people and teaches the reader how he/she can be successful by implementing those practices in their lives. I am very glad that I found this book and I definitely learned a lot from it. This is why I strongly recommend it!

hmm, not bad?

OK, I love Black Metal, and wanted to know more on the dark history, which is what this book promised…
BUT!!!
after my initial excitement at the size of the book and sprinklings of photos and embellishments, there's not much actual info on the history and development of the music. I'm guessing this book was written at least 15yrs ago, and written to cash in on the interest of the scene, and bring the fuss to america, and make some money.
There's too many 'introductions' and amendments, re-edition notes and thankyous etc… Yawn, Just get on with the book please!
It's very repetitive, with a lot of flowery nonsense. The author must like sounding clever. Very quickly it dissolves into a load of mumbo jumbo about boring pretty unrelated pagan/satanic theories (sounds interesting, but it's not) Yes I wanted to know fresh insights on all the carnage, but also about the music developments etc. It doesn't even touch on the music!? 1/3 of the book seemed to be just Varg ranting on about UFOs etc!
These days, there is a ton more info on wiki about the early murders, suicides and church burnings, and written more to the point
My advice: Wiki up Black Metal, and read all the related stuff about Mayhem etc. Then watch real interviews etc on youtube
If you want crazy B/W obscure photos of corpse painted instigators and interviews, I suggest getting the AWESOME book Metallion diaries, that dude was actually there!
This book could have been SO much better, too much hype, they needed a strict editor, and I WISH they'd asked ME to design it! a bit messy. HAIL SATAN!!

Extreme Metal, Extreme Detail

Four stars for the amazingly deep, detailed coverage of a sub-culture subject. The first few sections of the book tell the story well, the latter parts pile on detail that at times is more than you'll ever want to know or take the time to read. As an extreme metal fan, I appreciated it but admittedly skimmed through the late sections on UFOs and Norwegian National Socialist policy. There are some interviews in here that you wouldn't get anywhere else.

....You just cant look away.This is indeed an extremely well written account of the books subject matter.Being someone that was there for the first releases of the Metal genre known as "Black Metal" (Venom,Bathory,Sodom,etc..), it was shocking to read this & see how vastly different people may perceive the same exact thing: what I always took as a borderline "joke",references to Satanism & the Devil as an expression of rebellion (ohhh,scare the parents & authority figures!!) or perhaps an appreciation for horror movies (that was my take as a teenager),these misguided kids from the other side of the world took as a soberingly literal treatise on giving oneself over to evil.And even more disturbing than that is how it morphed into a branch of neo-nazism(?) A fascinating sociological read not for the faint of heart.
